Information regarding civilian casualties is limited to social media and no residents of Dogiyai have reported it officially. Nabire (ANTARA) - Up to the 15th day following the conflict incident in Dogiyai Regency on 31 March 2026, the Central Papua Regional Police (Polda) have confirmed that they have not received a single official report related to civilian victims. Deputy Chief of Central Papua Police, Senior Commissioner Pol. Gustav R. Urbinas, in Nabire on Wednesday, said that information about civilian casualties has so far only circulated on social media and has not been accompanied by official reports from the public. “Information about civilian casualties is limited to social media, and not a single Dogiyai resident has reported it officially,” he stated. According to him, Central Papua Police, together with the Dogiyai Police Resort, have handled 10 police reports (LP) related to the series of conflict events, but none of the reports contain initial evidence of civilian casualties. Of the total reports, six LPs relate to acts of violence, including assaults that resulted in the death of one police officer, attacks on members, vehicle burning, facility damage, and shooting using an air rifle. Meanwhile, the other four reports relate to alleged violations of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (ITE) in the form of spreading hoax information through social media. Gustav said his side is still conducting investigations to verify the truth of the circulating information regarding alleged civilian casualties in the conflict. “We will summon several parties to confirm whether there are indeed civilian casualties, whether due to police actions, unknown persons, or other parties,” he said. “We are open. Please report with verifiable evidence so that the truth can be known,” he added. According to him, the verification process can also involve external parties such as independent institutions to ensure transparency in handling the case. As is known, the series of conflicts in Dogiyai occurred following the death of a Dogiyai Police Resort member with initials JE (24) in Kimupugi Village, Kamuu District, on Tuesday (31/3). The victim was found dead with wounds from a sharp object on the neck to the back of the head as well as wounds on the right hand finger. In the follow-up of the case, it is suspected to have triggered a wider conflict between the public and police personnel in Dogiyai.
