Central Mamuju Regent Hands Over Land Certificate for People's School
The Central Mamuju regency government has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the acceleration of People’s School development by preparing land that will be used for the construction of a permanent school. This readiness was marked by the handover of a land certificate to the Ministry of Social Affairs.
A copy of the land certificate was handed over directly by Central Mamuju Regent Arsal Aras to Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Jakarta on Monday (24/8).
The handover of the certificate is a follow-up to the Central Mamuju Regent’s visit to the Ministry of Social Affairs last July to report on the process of transferring land that will be used as the location for the construction of the People’s School.
The land, which was previously deemed unsuitable, has been relocated to Mamahe Village, Tobadak District, Central Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi. The land has an area of approximately 8.85 hectares and is currently agricultural land.
“The Central Mamuju Regent handed over the land certificate, covering an area of 8 hectares, which is planned for the construction of a People’s School in Central Mamuju,” he said in a written statement on Monday (24/8/2026).
With the issuance of the certificate for the proposed People’s School land, Agus Jabo expressed hope that Central Mamuju Regency can participate in the third phase of People’s School development, which is targeted to take place this year.
“We hope that this year Central Mamuju can participate in the third phase of People’s School development, so that our children in Central Mamuju, especially children from poor and extremely poor families, can receive a proper education as soon as possible,” he added.
According to him, the construction of People’s Schools is part of the government’s efforts to provide broader educational access for children from poor and extremely poor families. This programme is also one of the steps to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty through education.
“As the President hopes, this People’s School is expected to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty through education. We are preparing, we are working together so that poverty can be addressed immediately and we can become a sovereign, just and prosperous nation,” he said.
Agus Jabo added that President Prabowo Subianto has given great attention to education as one of the solutions to the problem of poverty. For this reason, People’s Schools are being developed up to the basic education level so that intervention for children from poor families can be carried out from an early age.
He explained that the need for People’s Schools is still quite large. Based on data from Statistics Indonesia presented in the context of the programme, there are still more than one million children from poor and extremely poor families who are not in school.
Meanwhile, the current capacity of People’s Schools is only around 43,000 students. To expand the reach of the programme, the government is increasing capacity, from around 1,000 students per school to up to 2,500 students per school.
Meanwhile, Central Mamuju Regent Arsal Aras said the land certificate handed over to the Ministry of Social Affairs was only issued on 19 August 2026. After the document was issued, his office immediately brought the certificate to the Ministry of Social Affairs as a follow-up to the preparation for the construction of the People’s School.
“The certificate process was only completed on 19 August, so we brought it now,” he concluded.
He said the Central Mamuju regency government continues to work in synergy with the central government to ensure that all requirements for the construction of the People’s School can be met.
The handover of the land certificate is one of the important stages in ensuring the readiness for the construction of a permanent People’s School in Central Mamuju. Once all requirements are met and the verification process is complete, the construction of the school is expected to be carried out soon.
Through collaboration between the central and regional governments, the People’s School is expected to become part of efforts to expand educational opportunities for children from poor families and support the realisation of equal access to education in various regions.
