The Commander of Military District 1620 (Dandim) Central Lombok, Lieutenant Colonel Arm Karimmuddin Rangkuti, has responded to a telegram issued by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto instructing all military units to implement alert status level 1 to anticipate the evolving conflict dynamics in the Middle East.

According to Karim, alert status one within the TNI is not unprecedented, as it has been frequently implemented in the past.

“This alert status one is not really extraordinary within the TNI. We have done it many times. Since there is an order from the TNI Commander at this time to implement alert status one, we will carry it out,” Karim told detikBali on Monday, 9 March 2026 following a Ramadan Safari visit to the military district headquarters.

Karim explained that the implementation of alert status one in the region currently emphasises several key aspects, particularly as Idul Fitri approaches. He noted that the entire dynamic is difficult to predict, making a state of readiness essential.

“What is emphasised in this alert status one includes improving the conduciveness of our respective areas and strengthening collaboration with stakeholders. We also don’t know what future dynamics will look like, so essentially we must always be prepared,” he said.

However, Karim was reluctant to elaborate on the Middle East dynamics in connection with the alert status one order. “I cannot answer that, because it is not within our purview as field implementers. What is clear is that we are ready to execute every order given,” he asserted.

He also stated that Central Lombok has two vital national facilities requiring security attention: Zainuddin Abdul Majid Airport (Bizam) and the Mandalika Special Economic Zone area.

“For the mitigation of this alert status one, we have coordinated with the Regional Leadership Forum (Forkopimda) including the police, prosecutors, and also reported to the Regent. Implementation is already underway, for example patrols at the airport and in the southern region which is the special economic zone,” he explained.

According to him, such patrols are routine operations, not just when alert status one is in effect. Karim emphasised that maintaining regional security is also important for protecting the district’s image among tourists.

“We must protect the good name of Central Lombok Regency. Because tourists who visit will certainly bring stories when they return to their respective regions,” he said.

Karim further reaffirmed that readiness is already part of the TNI soldier’s duties. This posture is independent of what personnel are doing—clearly, when there is an order, it must be executed.

“Alert status one is routine in the TNI. Just like when there is an extreme weather warning. The point is whenever ordered, whether sleeping or eating, if there is an order to move then we are ready to move,” he concluded.

As noted, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto issued a telegram to his subordinates to implement alert status level 1 to anticipate developments in the domestic situation due to the impact of the Middle East conflict. The TNI stated that this step was taken in accordance with the TNI’s primary tasks.

The order is contained in TNI Commander Telegram Number TR/283/2026. This letter was signed by the TNI Commander’s Operations Assistant, Lieutenant General Bobby Rinal Makmun on 1 March 2026.
