Central Lombok DPRD Urges Local Government to Find Solutions for Idle Assets
The Central Lombok Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has urged the local government to be more creative in managing assets built with billions of rupiah in public funds. The request follows widespread discussion about the abandonment of three buildings in front of the Zainuddin Abdul Majid International Airport (BIZAM) in Lombok. The three idle buildings were constructed at a staggering cost: Rp 7 billion for a swiftlet nest processing centre, Rp 4.8 billion for the Central Lombok Integrated Business Service Centre (PLUT), and Rp 5 billion for the Indonesian Pearl House (RMI), which was funded by central government assistance.
“We in the DPRD are pushing the local government to optimise the function of these assets. Moreover, the location of these buildings is very strategic. The relevant agencies need to find a solution so these buildings, built with taxpayers’ money, do not go to waste,” said Central Lombok DPRD Deputy Speaker Lalu Muhammad Akhyar in his office on Monday (6/7/2026). The Golkar Party politician explained that the PLUT building and the swiftlet nest processing centre are assets managed by the Cooperatives and SMEs Agency and the Trade and Industry Agency of Central Lombok. Meanwhile, the pearl house remains an asset of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government.
“The PLUT is meant to be a business service centre. It could serve as a form of local government attention to SMEs. The same goes for the swiftlet nest processing centre,” Akhyar stated. According to Akhyar, the three buildings are idle because the relevant agencies conducted very minimal socialisation and promotion. This has resulted in the public not utilising the services properly. “For the PLUT, I think the socialisation was lacking. When we visit constituencies, people still do not understand what PLUT is, so SME actors do not access it. In fact, many things can be done there, like product legality, packaging, and halal certification. But the socialisation was not optimised. There is not even a website,” he stressed.
He noted that the PLUT and the swiftlet nest processing centre were initially operational. However, this did not last long due to numerous obstacles, including minimal visits and a lack of public interest in managing the facilities. “There were indeed some swiftlet entrepreneurs who used the facility to process products ready for export with higher value. But now we see there is no activity,” Akhyar added. He urged the Central Lombok Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) to find a solution so the assets can be properly utilised. He assessed that the abandonment of the three buildings would add to the list of unmanaged regional assets.
“In fact, if there is no activity there, find a solution so it can be used. It does not necessarily have to generate regional revenue, but it could be for improving services, such as training or courses to enhance human resource capacity,” Akhyar asserted. It was previously reported that three local government assets in front of BIZAM airport in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, are abandoned. The three buildings are the PLUT, the swiftlet nest processing centre, and the Indonesian Pearl House. A monitoring visit on Monday (29/6/2026) at 2:00 p.m. local time showed the outer boundary wall on the east side of the buildings overgrown with bushes. The condition was not only bad outside but even worse inside the area. The most deplorable condition was seen at the RMI building. The NTB provincial government-owned structure has started to discolour and parts of its roof have collapsed. Meanwhile, to the east stands the grand PLUT building, which appears to be no longer operational, and at the back is the swiftlet nest processing centre owned by the Central Lombok Regency Government, which is nearly ruined.
