Central Kalimantan Strengthens Regional Resilience Against Disasters

The Central Kalimantan provincial government is continuing efforts to strengthen regional resilience in facing various conditions, including disasters. Staf Ahli Governor Yuas Elko stated in Palangka Raya on Wednesday that a workshop on disaster risk assessment and the calculation of the Regional Resilience Index (IKD) is one such effort being undertaken. The activity is supported by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). Through this workshop, it is hoped that all participants will understand the importance of preparing disaster risk assessments and calculating the regional resilience index. He said these two elements are crucial as a basis for formulating disaster management policies and planning based on data, scientific studies, and real conditions on the ground. Therefore, strong commitment, coordination, and synergy between the central government, provincial government, and district and city governments are needed so that disaster management implementation is directed, integrated, sustainable, and provides optimal protection to the community. The results of the assessment are expected to provide an overview of the level of threats, vulnerabilities, capacities, and regional resilience, serving as a reference for strengthening institutions, improving preparedness, and building Central Kalimantan’s resilience. Governor of Central Kalimantan Agustiar Sabran emphasised that disaster handling must be carried out carefully and precisely, especially to provide comfort and security for the community. This workshop aims to enhance local government understanding of disaster management implementation that is planned, directed, integrated, and sustainable, as well as to synergise and align disaster management policies between the central government, provincial government, and district and city governments. The workshop was held on 1–2 July 2026 and was attended by 66 participants from the Central Kalimantan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), district and city BPBDs, regional apparatuses, and related agencies.
