Central Kalimantan Provincial Government: Free Uniforms Target More Than 60,000 Students
Palangka Raya — The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government (Kalteng) has launched a strategic programme in the education sector, including free school uniforms for more than 60,000 pupils. ‘Even though efficiency in the budget has reduced the provincial budget (APBD) from Rp10.2 trillion in 2025 to Rp5.4 trillion in 2026, this did not become an obstacle or a reason for us to prioritise education, in line with the President’s Asta Cita,’ Governor Agustiar Sabran said in Palangka Raya on Thursday. Sabran emphasised that the programme is one of the concrete steps and commitments by the administration to ensure every child in Kalteng can enjoy the right to a decent and quality education. Recipients of free uniforms come from senior high schools (SMA), vocational high schools (SMK) and Special Schools (SKh) across all regencies and cities in Central Kalimantan. Acting Regional Secretary Leonard S. Ampung added that the recipients include those in remote inland areas to urban areas, including pupils who truly need it. Details of the uniforms provided are: 34,735 sport uniforms, 34,735 Batik Huma Betang uniforms, and 25,123 white-and-grey uniforms. A further 25,123 complete Scout uniforms, together with 26,030 pairs of shoes, 25,123 school hats, 25,123 school ties and 25,123 school belts. ‘This is a form of the Kalteng Provincial Government’s commitment to continuously improve access to and the quality of education in Bumi Tambun Bungai,’ he said. This aligns with the Vision and Mission of the Governor and Vice Governor of Kalteng, particularly Mission Two, which is the improvement of education for ethically grounded human resources through inclusive education, and also aligns with the President’s Asta Cita to strengthen the development of human resources, science, technology, education and health.
