The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government has assured that food supplies in the region are secure, even amid price increases in several commodities following Eid al-Fitr. Governor’s Special Staff Yuas Elko stated that food stocks, especially rice, are sufficient to meet public needs. “The availability of food stocks in Central Kalimantan, particularly rice, is currently ensured to be adequate and safe,” he said on Tuesday (7/4). Nevertheless, the government is heightening vigilance to maintain price stability in markets. Yuas explained that the price increases in commodities such as chillies, shallots, eggs, and broiler chicken are influenced by heightened demand during Le Ramadan. “These price rises are more due to seasonal factors, not the impact of fuel price increases,” he revealed. He also mentioned that issues regarding fuel price adjustments had previously affected market psychology and distribution costs. “However, since the fuel price increase plan has not been realised, the stability of essential goods prices is expected to remain maintained,” he clarified. The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government, Yuas continued, will continue to monitor inflation, including prices regulated by the government such as in the air transport sector. “Supervision is continuously carried out to keep prices within controlled ranges and preserve public purchasing power,” he concluded.
