Central Kalimantan Projects Increase in 'Sekolah Rakyat' Schools

The Education Office (Disdik) of Central Kalimantan has stated that the number of Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) in the province is projected to increase. In addition to the four Sekolah Rakyat currently being prepared, the provincial government is also proposing the construction of a provincial-level Sekolah Rakyat. The proposal was discussed directly by the Governor with the Minister of Social Affairs during a working visit to Central Kalimantan, according to the Head of the Central Kalimantan Education Office, Muhammad Reza Prabowo, in Palangka Raya on Wednesday. The Sekolah Rakyat managed by the provincial government is projected to have a much larger capacity compared to those at the district level. To date, four Sekolah Rakyat are being prepared in Central Kalimantan as part of the support for President Prabowo Subianto’s programme in the education sector. These schools are located in Katingan Regency, Palangka Raya City, Gunung Mas Regency, and East Kotawaringin Regency. Reza explained that while a district or city-managed school has a capacity of around 1,080 students, the provincial-level Sekolah Rakyat is projected to accommodate up to approximately 3,000 students. He stressed that the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government, under the leadership of Governor Agustiar Sabran, is fully committed to supporting the implementation of the programme through collaboration with district and city governments. The Governor’s message is consistently about the need for collaboration, not only from the provincial government but also from district and city governments, to ensure all of the President’s programmes in Central Kalimantan run well. Reza added that details regarding the provincial-level Sekolah Rakyat cannot yet be announced to the public as it is still awaiting a feasibility study. This assessment is necessary to ensure the land conditions are truly suitable for construction, safe, and capable of providing comfort for all future students.
