The increasing commercial activity during Ramadan 1447 Hijri is considered a vulnerable time for criminals to circulate counterfeit money. Therefore, the Central Kalimantan Police are reminding the public to be more careful during transactions.

The Chief of the Central Kalimantan Police, Inspector General of Police Iwan Kurniawan, through the Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Rachmat, said that in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr, the circulation of cash in the community increases significantly.

“In the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr, community transaction activity increases, so the potential for the circulation of counterfeit money also increases. We ask the public to be more careful when receiving money,” he said on Tuesday (24/2).

According to him, shopping centres, traditional markets, and seasonal money exchange services are points that need to be watched out for. The high mobility and cash transactions often make people careless.

This situation, Budi continued, is often exploited by certain individuals to insert counterfeit money into transactions, especially during crowded conditions.

“We remind people not to be in a hurry when receiving money, especially in large amounts,” he stressed.

As an anticipatory measure, the public is asked to apply the 3D method, namely Look, Feel, and Examine. This simple method is considered effective in recognising the authenticity of rupiah banknotes.

With the 3D method, the physical characteristics of genuine money can be recognised, so the risk of becoming a victim can be minimised.

“We also urge the public not to hesitate to report if they find indications of counterfeit money circulation. Reports can be made through the Call Centre 110 or to the nearest police station so that officers can take immediate action,” he said. (H-2)
