Central Kalimantan Places Gunung Mas in Central Zone to Optimise Regional Potential
Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government has announced that Gunung Mas Regency is included in the central zone for regional development, allowing for a more focused approach to optimising its various potentials. “The potential of Gunung Mas is very large, including natural resources, agriculture, plantations, tourism, the creative economy, and the artistic and cultural wealth of the Dayak people,” said Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran during the 24th anniversary ceremony of Gunung Mas in Kuala Kurun on Monday. The provincial government has divided its territory into three zones: west, central, and east. Gunung Mas is placed in the central zone alongside Kapuas, Pulang Pisau, Katingan, and Palangka Raya. The central zone’s development focus includes agriculture (food estate), plantations such as coffee and palm oil, mining like bauxite and gold, freshwater fisheries, creative industries, forest product industries, and culture. The governor committed to supporting the Gunung Mas district government in optimising its potentials to spur regional development and improve community welfare. “If all potentials are managed optimally and sustainably, this district will undoubtedly grow more advanced, competitive, and prosperous,” he asserted. He noted that over 24 years, Gunung Mas has shown positive development and progress across various sectors, achieved through the hard work of all community elements. The spirit of togetherness and mutual cooperation is key to successful development, aiming to realise a prosperous and dignified society in Central Kalimantan, particularly in Gunung Mas. He stressed that efficiency does not mean reducing the spirit of development, but rather ensuring every rupiah of public money yields real benefits for the community. Meanwhile, Gunung Mas Regent Jaya S Monong said the series of events for the 24th anniversary began on 15 June and will conclude on 22 June 2026 at the Kuala Kurun Mini Stadium. The activities include a People’s Market Festival, the Mihing Manasa Cultural Festival, and various other events involving all elements of Gunung Mas society in a festive atmosphere of togetherness. “Let us all attend and enliven the closing night with the band Hijau Daun at the Kuala Kurun Mini Stadium tonight,” Jaya said.
