Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - The building used as the People’s Welfare Bureau of the Regional Secretariat of Central Kalimantan Province, located within the governor’s office complex in Palangka Raya, caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday.

The building that burned is situated opposite the Al Amanah Mosque, still within the Central Kalimantan Governor’s Office Complex.

“We will evaluate this. This bureau will certainly be relocated temporarily,” said Governor Agustiar Sabran during an inspection of the fire site.

Based on information gathered at the scene, the fire was first noticed around 02:10 WIB. A number of fire engines, both government and volunteer units, moved quickly to extinguish the blaze.

Besides the governor, Central Kalimantan Regional Secretary Linae Victoria Aden, Head of the People’s Welfare Bureau Rus’ansyah, and others were also present to monitor the location.

“What burned was the office of the Central Kalimantan Regional Secretariat’s People’s Welfare Bureau. The authorities will conduct the investigation; for now, our priority is extinguishing the fire,” said Regional Secretary Linae Victoria Aden.

Meanwhile, Head of the People’s Welfare Bureau Rus’ansyah stated that almost all rooms in the building were affected by the fire.

He explained that the rooms that burned included the bureau head’s room, division head’s room, subdivision heads’ rooms, and staff rooms.

“Almost all the rooms were affected. There is the bureau head’s room, division head’s room, subdivision heads’ rooms, and so on. Including all our staff rooms there,” he said.

According to him, based on the current conditions at the site, it is not yet known which items could be salvaged. An examination of the condition of goods and documents can only be carried out after the fire is completely extinguished and the police investigation is finished.

Regarding the origin of the fire, Rus’ansyah admitted he did not yet know for certain. He said he had only arrived at the location after the fire had already started.

From observations at the scene around 04:25 WIB, although the fire appeared to have been successfully extinguished, firefighters were still present at the location.
