Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran has asked the public to stay calm and refrain from panic buying of fuel. Agustiar also invited the community to actively monitor distribution and collectively prevent hoarding practices. “For now, it’s safe. The public doesn’t need to panic,” Agustiar said in Palangka Raya on Wednesday. He advised the public not to be swayed by rumours of shortages that could cause panic and excessive fuel purchases. The government, he said, will continue to take anticipatory measures through intensive monitoring of distribution in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure that fuel delivery runs smoothly and on target. Furthermore, he stated that monitoring fuel distribution is not only the responsibility of the government or law enforcement, but also requires public participation as a form of social control in the field. He emphasised that the public should not hesitate to report any indications of distribution irregularities. The Governor asked the public to help monitor fuel to prevent hoarding, both by petrol stations and the community. “If the public sees or knows of any individuals hoarding fuel, immediately report it to the authorities,” he explained. The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is ready to take firm action against parties proven to have intentionally hoarded fuel for personal gain. Agustiar said the local government is prepared to act quickly if violations are found in the field, including recommending the revocation of operating permits for petrol stations proven to have breached regulations.
