Central Kalimantan Governor Mourns Police Officer Killed in Drug Raid

Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran has expressed his sorrow over the death of a member of the Katingan Police narcotics unit who was killed whilst carrying out a raid on a suspected drug dealer in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Katingan Regency. “We are deeply concerned and offer our condolences,” Agustiar said during a meeting with leaders of Islamic community organisations in Palangka Raya on Friday. He further stated that narcotics are extremely dangerous as they destroy all aspects of people’s lives, especially those of the younger generation. The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is ready to support the authorities in eradicating drugs. “Narcotics are believed to be capable of breaking the chain of the younger generation’s future. Therefore, I strongly support the Central Kalimantan Regional Police to continue advancing and being vigilant in eradicating drug trafficking in this region,” he said. He stressed that eradicating drug trafficking in Central Kalimantan is not solely the task of the police force but must involve all elements of society. Additionally, Agustiar appreciated the establishment of a Drug Monitoring Post in the Puntun area of Palangka Raya, spearheaded by the Dayak Anti-Drug Movement, whose construction is currently underway. The presence of the post is expected to suppress and prevent drug trafficking in the area deemed vulnerable. He even suggested that the construction of such monitoring posts should be expanded, particularly in areas considered prone to drug trafficking. “I think not only in Puntun, but drug monitoring posts like this should also be built in the future, especially in areas vulnerable to drug trafficking,” he said. He affirmed that the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is ready to fully support all forms of drug eradication by the Central Kalimantan Regional Police, the Dayak Anti-Drug Movement, and others.
