Central Kalimantan Governor Grants Thousands of Starlink Units to Accelerate Internet Access in Remote Villages
The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov Kalteng) is continuing to accelerate the equitable distribution of digital connectivity access to remote villages. This concrete step is marked by the distribution of Starlink satellite-based internet device grants for thousands of public facilities in remote areas and blank-spot regions.
The assistance was handed over symbolically by the Governor of Central Kalimantan, Agustiar Sabran, at the Central Kalimantan Village Coordination Meeting (Rakordes) in Palangka Raya on Thursday (6/8/2026).
This grant programme is part of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure while accelerating digital transformation to reach villages that have so far experienced limited internet access.
The Governor of Central Kalimantan, Agustiar Sabran, emphasised that equitable development is not only realised through physical infrastructure development, but also by ensuring that all communities have access to information and communication technology.
“The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is committed to providing internet access to remote villages. This Starlink device grant is not merely about providing a network, but also about opening access to education, health services, government services, and broader economic opportunities. With improved connectivity, we want to ensure that no village is left behind in digital transformation,” said Governor Agustiar Sabran.
According to Governor Agustiar Sabran, the availability of reliable internet networks will be an important foundation for improving the quality of public services at the village level.
Village governments are expected to be able to utilise digital technology to deliver administrative services that are faster, easier, and more transparent to the public.
“I hope that these Starlink devices are truly utilised optimally by village governments. Make the internet a means of improving the quality of public services, strengthening village governance, and encouraging the emergence of innovations that can improve community welfare,” explained Governor Agustiar Sabran.
Furthermore, Governor Agustiar Sabran said that equitable internet access is also expected to open new economic opportunities for village communities through the use of digital technology, ranging from promoting regional superior products, developing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to expanding access to digital markets.
“The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government continues to encourage synergy between the provincial government, district/city governments, and village governments so that the implementation of digital transformation runs effectively and provides real benefits to the community,” added Governor Agustiar Sabran.
In the initial phase, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government distributed Starlink device grants to 13 districts/cities to be used by primary schools (SD), junior high schools (SMP), and community health centres (Puskesmas), particularly in areas that still experience limited internet access.
In the symbolic handover, the Sukamara Regency Government received 73 Starlink device units, East Kotawaringin Regency 83 units, Gunung Mas Regency 72 units, Palangka Raya City Government 14 units, Katingan Regency 287 units, East Barito Regency 70 units, Seruyan Regency 131 units, West Kotawaringin Regency 176 units, South Barito Regency 93 units, Murung Raya Regency 104 units, Kapuas Regency 47 units, Pulang Pisau Regency 87 units, and Lamandau Regency 170 units.
All of these devices will be used to support the improvement of education services, accelerate the digitalisation of learning, and improve the quality of health services in each region.
The presence of Starlink devices is also expected to overcome blank-spot areas while strengthening digital connectivity to the remote corners of Central Kalimantan.
Through satellite technology support, more stable internet services are expected to accelerate the digitalisation of public services, improve the quality of education and health services, and facilitate government communication in various regions.
Through this Starlink device grant programme, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government hopes that all regions, including remote villages, can enjoy quality internet access to support the improvement of public services, the quality of human resources, and equitable development in Bumi Tambun Bungai.
