Central Kalimantan Governor: Food Aid Targets Various Groups During Forest Fires
The Governor of Central Kalimantan, Agustiar Sabrant, stated that the distribution of food aid during forest and land fires (karhutla) targets various groups that are affected or in need.
“Food aid is a form of government care as well as an effort to maintain the purchasing power of communities in need,” said Agustiar Sabran in Palangka Raya on Thursday.
On 17 September, 4,000 food aid packages were distributed, intended for Grade I and II civil servants, PPPK (government employees with work agreements), part-time PPPK, and outsourcing staff within regional agencies. Each aid package contains five kilograms of rice, two litres of cooking oil, and one kilogram of granulated sugar. Previously, food aid was also distributed to 3,500 students, prioritising those from remote areas.
“The government must pay attention to everyone. We must not think only of ourselves. We must care for what we lead,” explained Agustiar.
In addition to aid for government personnel, food support is also being continued for communities across various regencies and cities. This aid is part of the local government’s efforts to expand the reach of its care and assist those impacted by the forest fire conditions.
Consequently, government attention is not only focused at the provincial level but is also directed to ensure that the benefits of the aid can reach people across various regions of Central Kalimantan.
Furthermore, the governor emphasised that food aid is only one of many efforts being undertaken by the provincial government to handle forest fires and their impacts. To date, joint teams have been continuously conducting firefighting operations at various locations. Additionally, the provincial government is distributing masks and multivitamins to the public, as well as providing oxygen houses.
