The Provincial Government of Central Kalimantan (Pemprov Kalteng) officially launched a programme providing free school uniforms for more than 60,000 students in Senior High Schools (SMA), Vocational Schools (SMK), and Special Schools (SKh). This step reflects the regional commitment to keeping education affordable for the wider community.

Gubernur Kalimantan Tengah, Agustiar Sabran, stressed that although the region faces fiscal challenges, the education sector must not be sacrificed. He said the programme would proceed even as the 2026 APBD (Regional Budget) structure saw a significant decline.

“Even though budget efficiency caused the APBD of Central Kalimantan to fall from Rp10.2 trillion in 2025 to Rp5.4 trillion in 2026, that is not a barrier. We still place education as a priority, in line with Asta Cita Bapak Presiden,” said Agustiar in a statement on Friday (6 March 2026).

Plt Secretary to the Regional Government of Central Kalimantan, Leonard S. Ampung, explained that the assistance is distributed evenly to students across regencies and cities, with primary focus on those in remote areas who genuinely require support.

The aid includes not only formal uniforms but also complete school supplies to ease the burden on parents. Details comprise 34,735 sets of Sport Uniform and Batik Huma Betang, 25,123 White/Beige Uniforms and Scout Uniform, 26,030 pairs of School Shoes, and tens of thousands of accompanying accessories such as hats, ties, and belts.

“This is a tangible manifestation of the Kalteng Provincial Government’s commitment to continually improving access to and the quality of education in Bumi Tambun Bungai,” said Leonard.
