Palangkaraya (ANTARA) - Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran has provided thousands of free basic foodstuffs packages in a subsidised market event ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 to online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers, sanitation workers, porters, and members of community social organisations.

“Those working as ojol drivers, sanitation workers, porters, and others are entitled to receive this assistance,” said Governor Agustiar Sabran in Palangkaraya on Wednesday.

The event provided 2,052 packages of basic foodstuffs containing five kilograms of rice, one kilogram of sugar, and two litres of cooking oil, valued at Rp145,500. The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov Kalteng) subsidised Rp135,500, with further subsidies from the governor making the packages free.

He emphasised that the programme represents the government’s presence in assisting the community, particularly groups of workers who serve as the backbone of their families.

“I know that all of you are the backbone of the family, who work hard every day to support the family so that all their needs can be met,” stated the Central Kalimantan Governor.

Central Kalimantan’s Deputy Governor Edy Pratowo added that the regional government understands the economic challenges faced by the community, including the impact of the global geopolitical situation.

“Even though the budget has decreased from Rp10.2 trillion to Rp5.4 trillion, we are still striving to give the best for the community,” he explained.

Acting Regional Secretary of Central Kalimantan Leonard S Ampung explained that the event was combined with Free Health Check Services (CKG), which is part of the central government’s programme. The event was attended by around 400 to 500 people.
