Central Kalimantan Governor Accelerates Internet Access Equity in Remote Areas, Grants Thousands of Starlink Units
The Provincial Government of Central Kalimantan (Kalteng) continues to accelerate equal access to the internet in remote areas through the distribution of Starlink satellite-based internet device grants.
The assistance was symbolically handed over by the Governor of Central Kalimantan, Agustiar Sabran, at the Central Kalimantan Village Coordination Meeting (Rakordes) in Palangka Raya on Thursday (6/8/2026).
This grant programme is part of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure while accelerating digital transformation to reach villages that have so far experienced limited internet access.
The Governor of Central Kalimantan, Agustiar Sabran, emphasised that equitable development is not only realised through physical infrastructure development, but also by ensuring that all members of society have access to information and communication technology.
“The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is committed to providing internet access to remote villages. This Starlink device grant is not merely about providing a network, but also about opening access to education, health services, government services, and broader economic opportunities. With improved connectivity, we want to ensure that no village is left behind in digital transformation,” said Governor Agustiar Sabran, as quoted on Thursday, 13 August 2026.
According to Governor Agustiar Sabran, the availability of a reliable internet network will be an important foundation for improving the quality of public services at the village level.
Village governments are expected to be able to utilise digital technology to deliver administrative services that are faster, easier, and more transparent to the public.
“I hope that village governments will truly utilise these Starlink devices optimally. Make the internet a means of improving the quality of public services, strengthening village governance, and encouraging the emergence of innovations that can improve community welfare,” explained Governor Agustiar Sabran.
Furthermore, Governor Agustiar Sabran said that equal internet access is also expected to open new economic opportunities for village communities through the use of digital technology, ranging from promoting regional flagship products, developing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to expanding access to digital markets.
“The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government continues to encourage synergy between the provincial government, district/city governments, and village governments so that the implementation of digital transformation runs effectively and provides real benefits to the community,” added Governor Agustiar Sabran.
