Central Kalimantan Chamber of Commerce Supports Prabowo's Plan to Trim Underperforming State-Owned Enterprises

The Chairman of the Central Kalimantan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Kalteng), H. Rahmat Nasution Hamka, has expressed high appreciation for the President’s firmness in directing the efficiency of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) during a gathering of all Kadin Chairmen from across Indonesia at the State Palace on Friday, 31 July 2026. This strategic government move is seen as a major breakthrough that is highly responsive in improving the national business ecosystem. Hamka stated that the BUMN rationalisation policy brings fresh air and new hope for the national investment climate. ‘We greatly appreciate the major breakthrough by President Prabowo Subianto in yesterday’s meeting. He clearly sees the movement of our economy and dares to criticise and highlight the role of BUMN, which has been too dominant so far,’ said Hamka. Hamka asserted that the policy of cutting thousands of BUMN to an ideal figure of around 250 to 300 companies will mark a sweet chapter in national leadership. The reduction restores the focus of BUMN solely to vital sectors that the private sector cannot manage. Specifically, Kadin Kalteng highlighted the infrastructure sector, which has been dominated by state-owned construction companies. The multi-layered subcontracting chain has triggered financial crises downstream and harmed regional business players. ‘The government’s commitment to handing over infrastructure projects fully to the national and local private sector ends the unhealthy practice where the state, through BUMN, acts as a direct competitor to private entrepreneurs. This synergy provides a vital boost for local MSMEs to grow sustainably,’ Hamka said.
