Central Java Weather Monday: Seven Regions May See Light Rain, High Waves Warning Issued
Mountainous and highland areas in seven regions of Central Java are likely to see light rain in the early hours of Monday (20/7). Despite this, the public is urged to remain alert to the potential for forest and land fires (karhutla) due to the dry season.
BMKG forecaster at the Ahmad Yani Semarang Station, Farita Rachmawati, explained that the light rain is predicted to fall over Cilacap, Purwokerto, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Kebumen, Wonosobo, and Temanggung. Although the rainfall intensity is expected to be low and uneven, the phenomenon is hoped to slightly reduce temperatures amid the dry season.
“Although there is still a chance of rain, remain vigilant against forest and land fires because during this dry season many plants, twigs, and dry leaves are easily ignited by sparks,” Farita said on Sunday evening (19/7).
In general, other areas in Central Java are expected to experience clear to cloudy weather. Winds are blowing from the northeast to the southwest at speeds of 3 to 20 kilometres per hour. Air temperatures are expected to range from 14 to 30 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels between 75 and 95 percent.
In addition to land conditions, the BMKG has also issued a warning regarding maritime conditions. Forecaster at the Tanjung Emas Maritime Station in Semarang, Lessy Andari, stated that high waves of 1.25 to 2.5 metres are still occurring in the northern and southern waters of Central Java.
In the northern waters, high waves are occurring evenly in the areas of Pekalongan-Kendal, Semarang-Demak, Karimunjawa, Jepara, and Pati-Rembang. Meanwhile, in the southern waters, similar conditions are affecting the Cilacap to Purworejo areas.
“Wave heights above 1.25 metres pose a significant risk to shipping activities, especially for fishing boats, barges, and passenger vessels when wind speeds exceed 15 knots,” Lessy explained.
Regarding coastal flooding, Lessy added that although the tidal flood (rob) had subsided on Sunday evening, the potential for tidal flooding is predicted to re-emerge on Monday (20/7) between 10:00 and 14:00 WIB, with a maximum height of 1 metre. Residents along the northern coast of Central Java are urged to remain on alert for potential flooding.
