Central Java Weather Forecast Today, 5 March 2026: 90S Cyclone Seed Triggers Extreme Weather
Weather forecast for Central Java today, 5 March 2026, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) shows extreme weather arising from the 90S cyclone seed, with heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning increasing in 32 districts across Central Java. In addition, residents are advised to stay alert to high waves up to 4 metres in seas deemed hazardous for shipping.
In the morning (5/3), weather in Central Java is generally cloudy, with light rain beginning to fall in Wonogiri, Temanggung and Magelang Regency; by the afternoon, evening and night, light-to-moderate rain is expected to fall more evenly, with extreme weather potentially in 32 districts including the mountainous areas, highlands, southern Central Java, Solo Raya and the Pantura region.
The impact of the 90S cyclone seed over the southern waters off Java also results in high waves of 2.5-4 metres in the southern waters of Central Java and 1.25-2.5 metres in the northern waters, accompanied by rain and storms, posing risks to fishing vessels, tugs and passenger and freight transport.
“Beware hydrometeorological disasters such as landslides, floods and tornadoes as potential consequences of extreme weather that could affect 32 districts in Central Java,” said forecaster Risca Maulida Kamus of BMKG’s Ahmad Yani Semarang Meteorology Station (5/3).
The districts in Central Java identified as at risk include Cilacap, Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Kebumen, Purworejo, Wonosobo, Mungkid, Boyolali, Klaten, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri, Karanganyar, Sragen, Grobogan, Blora, Rembang, Pati, Kudus, Ungaran, Temanggung, Kendal, Batang, Kajen, Pemalang, Slawi, Magelang, Surakarta, Salatiga, Bumiayu, Majenang and Ambarawa.
Other districts in Central Java are forecast to experience light-to-moderate rain; winds are reported from the west to the north at 10-30 kilometres per hour; temperatures range from 18-32 degrees Celsius and humidity from 60-95 percent.
BMKG’s Maritime Station at Tanjung Emas Semarang, Lessy Andari, said that although the sea regressed (tide) on the north coast of Central Java had abated by Thursday (5/3), waves and storms in both the northern and southern waters were intensifying.
As a result of the 90S cyclone seed in the southern waters off Java, residents are urged to limit coastal activities and navigation risks, especially when wind speeds exceed 15 knots. “Be wary of high waves that are accompanied by rain and storms,” she added. (H-4)
