Central Java weather forecast for today, 22 May 2026, according to the Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG), includes an early warning of potential extreme weather forecast to hit 28 districts across Central Java on Friday (22/5). Residents are urged to increase vigilance against hydrometeorological hazards, coastal tidal flooding on the northern coast, and high waves in the southern seas.

According to the forecast data, morning conditions in Central Java are generally cloudy. However, from midday to early evening, light to moderate rain is likely to affect most areas. Extreme weather, in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning, is predicted in 28 districts.

Forecaster Risca Maulida of BMKG’s Ahmad Yani Semarang Meteorological Station said the increased potential for extreme weather covers the mountainous areas, highlands, the central-west Pantura, the southern part of Central Java, and parts of the Solo Raya area.

The following are areas to watch: (Note: The list of specific districts was not included in the provided material.)

Risca added that for areas not in that list, there remains a chance of light to moderate rain. Air temperature is forecast to range from 18-34 degrees Celsius with humidity between 50-95 percent.

In addition to the extreme weather, the threat of tidal flooding (rob) or sea-level rise remains a concern for the northern coast (Pantura) of Central Java. BMKG maritime forecaster Lessy Andari of the Tanjung Emas Semarang Maritime Station revealed that rob is forecast to occur from 11:00 to 16:00 WIB. The maximum tide height can reach up to 1 meter, potentially flooding several areas, affecting transport activities, port loading/unloading processes, and coastal fisheries and salt farmers.

BMKG has also issued warnings for the shipping sector. High waves in the southern waters of Central Java are forecast to reach 1.25 to 2.5 meters. This condition poses significant risks to seafaring safety, especially for fishermen’s vessels, barges, and passenger ships. “Be wary of high waves in the southern waters. Wind speeds above 15 knots should also be monitored as they risk affecting maritime activities,” said Lessy Andari.
