Central Java Weather Forecast: Beware of Rain and Coastal Flooding Until 17 June

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning regarding the weather forecast for Central Java and the potential for extreme weather. Although most of the region has entered the dry season, light to moderate rain is still predicted to fall in a number of areas on Wednesday (17/6).

Head of the BMKG Ahmad Yani Meteorological Station in Semarang, Yoga Sambodo, stated that this phenomenon is triggered by atmospheric conditions that remain dynamic. The public is urged to remain vigilant, especially in mountainous areas, highlands, and parts of the Pantura (North Coast Road) route.

Meanwhile, an extreme cold temperature phenomenon, known locally as bedinding, continues to blanket highland areas such as Dieng, Mount Merbabu, Telomoyo, and Merapi. In the Dieng Plateau, nighttime and early morning temperatures have been reported to reach 1 degree Celsius. This condition triggers the appearance of frost, or embun upas, which resembles snow. "Frost is visible in several areas, attracting tourists despite the very cold temperatures," said Maharani, a tourist in Dieng. However, local farmers noted that the thickness of the frost has decreased compared to the previous week due to cloud cover and light rain.

In addition to the potential for rain, the BMKG Tanjung Emas Maritime Station in Semarang has also warned of the threat of coastal flooding, or rob, along the northern waters of Central Java. Forecaster Retna Swasti Karini stated that the sea tide is expected to reach a maximum height of one metre. This coastal flooding is predicted to occur from morning to noon and has the potential to disrupt transportation, loading and unloading activities at ports, as well as inland fisheries and salt pond sectors. Communities in coastal areas are asked to remain alert to the impacts of this rising sea level.
