Central Java Weather Forecast 31 July 2026: Rain in Five Areas and Tidal Flood Warning

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that light to moderate intensity rain has the potential to hit five areas in Central Java on Friday (31/7). In addition to the potential for rain, the public is also requested to be wary of high waves reaching 2.5 metres and the phenomenon of tidal flooding (rob) which continues to occur in both northern and southern waters.

Weather conditions from morning to afternoon in Central Java are generally predicted to be partly cloudy or cloudy. However, from late afternoon to early night, rain is likely to occur, particularly in mountainous and highland areas. “Remain vigilant against forest and land fires (karhutla) because many dry plants and trees are easily ignited, as well as strong winds during this dry season,” said Winda Ratri, a forecaster at the BMKG Ahmad Yani Semarang Meteorological Station, on Friday (31/7).

Light rain is also likely to fall in 15 other areas, including Mungkid, Boyolali, Sukoharjo, Karanganyar, Sragen, Grobogan, Blora, Demak, Ungaran, Kajen, Pemalang, Slawi, Magelang, Surakarta, and Semarang. Other areas are predicted to remain partly cloudy throughout the day. Generally, winds will blow from the east to the south at speeds of 5-35 kilometres per hour. Air temperatures will range between 16-34 degrees Celsius with humidity levels between 45-95 per cent.

In the maritime sector, although the weather tends to be partly cloudy, high waves of 1.25-2.5 metres still threaten the northern and southern waters of Central Java. Retna Swasti Karini, a forecaster at the BMKG Tanjung Emas Semarang Maritime Station, noted that high waves are occurring in the Pekalongan-Kendal, Semarang-Demak, Jepara, Karimunjawa, Pati-Rembang, and Cilacap-Purworejo areas. “Be wary of high waves above 1.25 metres when wind speeds exceed 15 knots, as this poses a risk to shipping activities, especially for fishing boats and barges,” Retna emphasised.

In addition to waves, tidal flooding (rob) continues to haunt northern coastal areas (Pantura) such as Pekalongan, Batang, Kendal, Semarang, Demak, Jepara, Pati, and Rembang. Although the maximum tidal height has decreased to 0.9 metres, this phenomenon still has the potential to disrupt community activities. Tidal flooding is predicted to occur between 07:00 and 11:00 WIB. This condition is expected to hinder transportation, port loading and unloading processes, as well as the operations of inland aquaculture and salt farmers in the affected areas.
