Central Java to Have Indonesia's Largest Dairy Farm
Semarang (ANTARA) - Central Java will have a large-scale integrated dairy farm with a capacity of 30,000 head of cattle, specifically in Brebes Regency, which is touted to become the largest in Indonesia. “If this is built, it will become the largest in Indonesia,” said the Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health (PKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda, in Semarang on Thursday. In an audience with the Governor of Central Java, he conveyed that the project is being developed by PT Global Dairy Bersama (GDB). According to him, the existence of this farm will not only boost national milk production but also significantly drive the regional economy. Currently, domestic milk production only reaches around 1 million tonnes per year, while national needs reach 4.7 million tonnes, so about 80 percent of needs are still met from imports. “With the additional production from Brebes, this will significantly reduce import dependency,” he said. This additional production also has the potential to boost Central Java’s position as one of the national milk producers, considering it is currently in third place, behind East Java and West Java. The central government has prepared various supports, from providing imported cattle seeds from Australia, the United States, New Zealand, to Brazil, to strengthening the animal health system.
