Central Java Regional Secretary Sumarno has welcomed the revision of the low-income community (MBR) definition by the Minister of Home Affairs to support the 3 million homes programme. The plan will change the MBR income threshold from a maximum of Rp7 million per month to Rp8.5 million per month for single or unmarried individuals. “With this concept, the minister intends to broaden the target for the 3 million homes programme. More people will be able to access subsidised housing,” Sumarno said on Friday (26/6/2026). He added that the 3 million homes programme for MBR is already underway in Central Java. “You can see for yourselves, if you travel along the toll road, there are many subsidised houses on the left and right. Those are from this programme,” he said. However, Sumarno admitted he did not yet know the exact realisation figures for subsidised housing access in Central Java. Previously, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian stated he would revise the MBR definition to support the 3 million homes programme. The revision will be carried out jointly with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait. One of the changes being prepared is the adjustment of the MBR income limit. The maximum income for unmarried individuals will be raised from Rp7 million to Rp8.5 million per month. This step is being taken so that the housing programme can reach a wider segment of society.
