Central Java Residents Often Complain About Damaged Roads, Governor Ahmad Luthfi Blames Rain
The Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, has acknowledged the high volume of public complaints regarding the damaged condition of roads within the province. According to Luthfe, one of the primary factors causing road deterioration in the region is the extended duration of the rainy season.
“Regarding the roads in our area, whether they are provincial, regency/city, or village roads, there are many public complaints from our community regarding road conditions,” Luthfi stated during a plenary session at the Central Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) office on Thursday (2/7/2026).
He explained that road stability in Central Java stood at 94.4 per cent in 2025, but has since dropped to 84 per cent in 2026. “Why did this happen? Because our rainy season has lasted for a long duration this year. Rain is the primary ailment for our roads,” he said.
Luthfi noted that roads tend to remain smoother when they are not frequently subjected to heavy rainfall and waterlogging. “In Indonesia, and in our specific area, when it hits the roads, everything is destroyed,” he added.
Luthfi expressed a desire to anticipate the potential for damaged road conditions in Central Java to go viral on social media. However, he emphasised that public complaints regarding damaged roads cannot be addressed immediately.
“We must undertake budgeting, then conduct tenders, and determine which roads are the priorities,” he said.
He stated that the Central Java Provincial Government has increased the budget allocation for road repairs by Rp200 billion. Through this measure, Luthfi hopes that the stability of provincial roads in Central Java can return to the 94 per cent mark.
“The goal is to reach 94 per cent stability again so that there are no more public complaints. The roads we will focus on are those that can foster new economic growth in our region, as well as border roads that serve as the showcase of Central Java Province,” Luthfi remarked.
He added that the Rp200 billion budget increase will be utilised to repair roads in several areas, including Wonogiri, Rembang, and Blora. “Particularly for those that recently went viral, everything regarding the roads is now clear; we are just waiting for the tender process,” he concluded.
