Central Java Relies on Artificial Insemination to Boost Milk Production
This innovation is one of the efforts to accelerate the increase in dairy cow populations and milk production in Central Java.
The Deputy Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen, also known as Gus Yasin, stated that this technology represents a significant breakthrough in the development of livestock farming in Central Java. With this technology, farmers can adjust the birth of calves to meet their livestock development needs.
“If the community wants female cows, it can be arranged here. If they want male cows, it is possible. This is an extraordinary innovation. We can regulate the population,” said Taj Yasin in his statement on Friday (4/9/2026).
He made these remarks while representing Governor Ahmad Lutfi at the Jateng Livestock Fest 2026, held at the Central Java Department of Agriculture and Livestock (Distannak) office courtyard in Semarang on Friday (4/9).
According to him, this technology is vital to support Central Java’s ambition to become a milk production centre. The development of dairy cow populations must continue so that the potential for milk production in Central Java grows even larger.
“We want Central Java to become a central milk producer,” he added.
Gus Yasin noted that Central Java currently contributes approximately 9.4 per cent to national milk production, ranking third in the country.
The development of milk production is being carried out through the strengthening of dairy cow centres in the region. During the event, the Central Java Provincial Government signed a joint commitment regarding the development of dairy cows in Batang and Breking Regencies.
Furthermore, he stated that livestock development must be accompanied by an increase in public consumption of animal protein, including milk. He noted that increased production must be balanced with increased consumption so that the community benefits from the availability of nutritious food.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Java Department of Agriculture and Livestock, Defransisco Dasilva Tavares, explained that the artificial insemination technology uses sexed dairy cow frozen semen. This technology was developed by the Central Java Artificial Insemination Centre (BIB).
This technology allows farmers to direct the sex of the calves produced through artificial insemination according to their needs.
“For example, if a farmer has 10 cows and wants to use artificial insemination to ensure they are all female, or all male, it is possible,” he said.
On this occasion, the Central Java Provincial Government handed over sexed dairy cow frozen semen to the Batang Regency Food and Agriculture Office. Dairy cow assistance was also provided to the Banjarsari I Farmer Group in Semampir Village, Reban District, Batang Regency.
Additionally, GFP certificates were presented to the Banjarsari I Farmer Group and the Sepet Harum II Farmer Group in Pacet Village, Reban District, Batang Regency.
The development of dairy cows in Batang and Brebes is part of the Central Java Provincial Government’s steps to strengthen the dairy ecosystem. The programme was also marked by the launch of ‘Gerbang Susu Jawa Tengah’ or the Central Java Dairy Development Movement.
Jateng Livestock Fest 2026 is part of the 190th Livestock and Animal Health Service Month, running from 26 August to 26 September 2026.
In addition to the launch of Gerbang Susu, the event included the distribution of animal protein assistance, a Quality Livestock Market Showcase, a Creative Bento Challenge, and the ‘Gerimis’ (Milk Drinking Movement). A total of 200 packages containing chicken, milk, and eggs were also distributed to the community.
