Semarang — Sumarno, Regional Secretary of Central Java Province, led civil servants (ASN) across the Central Java Provincial Government in implementing an “Office Cleanliness Drive” campaign. The activity, which took place at the Regional Secretariat headquarters in Semarang on Friday, is part of the broader Central Java Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful (ASRI) Movement.

The “Office Cleanliness Drive” aligns with the Circular Letter issued by the Governor of Central Java on 19 February 2026 (Number: 600.4/0001544 of 2026) regarding the Central Java ASRI Movement.

Beginning with a morning briefing led by Regional Secretary Sumarno, the civil servants collectively cleaned the office yard, pavements, drainage ditches, and other office areas. Sumarno himself walked through the drainage ditches along the pavement in the area of Jalan Pahlawan Number 9 in Semarang, personally collecting cables, plastic waste, and grass from the ditches. He also instructed his staff to repair cracked pavement sections to prevent obstruction to pedestrians.

During the event, Sumarno encouraged the civil servants of the Regional Secretariat to become waste management advocates. “We respectfully request your assistance in becoming waste management advocates and serving as the spearhead for proper waste management,” he said.

As people of faith and piety, he continued, maintaining cleanliness is an obligation that must be fulfilled. “During this month of Ramadan, let us engage in positive activities, including maintaining the cleanliness of our surroundings,” he stated.

He also cautioned against the sin of littering, emphasising that maintaining cleanliness is part of faith. He warned that indiscriminate littering clearly disrupts others’ activities—for example, discarding mineral water bottles in drainage ditches that accumulate with other waste in culverts, resulting in flooding.
