Central Java Ready to Welcome Millions of Homecoming Travellers, Public Safety and Comfort Prioritised
The Central Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jateng) is prepared to welcome tens of millions of people entering the region during Eid 2026. Governor Ahmad Luthfi emphasised the importance of public safety, security, and comfort. To this end, all district and city heads together with regional command forum members (forkopimda) at Pemprov Jateng were convened to strengthen mudik (homecoming) preparations in their respective areas.
“This cross-sectoral meeting is to align perceptions in preparation for homecoming and return traffic. It is predicted that approximately 17.3 million travellers will enter Central Java this year,” said Luthfi while chairing a cross-sectoral coordination meeting with district and city heads and forkopimda members across Central Java at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja building in Semarang on Monday, 9 March.
Also present at the meeting were Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen, Central Java Regional Secretary Sumarno, and forkopimda members. The meeting also discussed sector readiness, including preparedness of infrastructure and facilities, availability of essential goods, mitigation of disaster-prone areas, and anticipatory measures.
The steps already undertaken by Pemprov Jateng include establishing an Integrated Command Post at the Central Java Transportation Office, regional command posts at six Transportation Infrastructure Management Halls across Central Java, posts at 23 Type B terminals, and mobile patrols in congestion-prone locations such as tourist sites, busy commercial centres, and informal markets.
Additionally, Luthfi requested the installation of portable warning signs, deployment of 10 additional CCTV points, provision of free mudik and return travel services, vehicle safety checks at 23 Type B terminals, and preparation of alternative routes. He noted that road repairs, installation of traffic signs, and street lighting improvements have been accelerated in recent weeks to ensure smooth, pothole-free roads for the public.
Regarding essential goods availability, the Governor also requested that market operations and food task force inspections continue regularly. He expressed concern about potential shortages of essential commodities and hoarding that could trigger price increases and inflation in the region.
“We are increasing market operations; currently, we have conducted approximately 300 activities across all districts and cities,” he explained.
Readiness also concerns energy supplies such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), fuel oil, and electricity. Pertamina has confirmed that LPG and fuel stocks for Central Java are secure during Eid. Similarly, the State Electricity Company (PLN) has implemented measures to secure distribution, including provision of public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU).
“Gas is sufficient. I urge the public not to panic buy, not to follow trends, not to be irrational. Fuel stocks are very adequate; recently Deputy Governor Yasin inspected the field, and Pertamina representatives confirmed supplies are sufficient for the next two months,” he said.
Furthermore, Ahmad Luthfi requested district and city heads and forkopimda members to mitigate potential disasters that may occur during the Eid holiday period.
Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Ribut Hari Wibowo stated that regarding the Eid celebration, ensuring security and comfort is the top priority. The operations conducted will focus on safety and hospitality.
A total of approximately 28,980 personnel have been deployed to secure homecoming-return traffic and Eid celebrations in Central Java. This comprises 22,000 police personnel, 1,189 military personnel, and 5,111 personnel from other relevant agencies. Tens of thousands of these personnel are deployed across numerous vital locations in Central Java.
“There are approximately 134 shopping centres, 45 terminals, 23 seaports, 18 fishing ports, 16,300 mosques, 224 tourist sites, and 48 railway stations. Additionally, there are 153 security posts, 78 health posts, and 31 integrated command posts,” he stated.
