Central Java Provincial Government to Oversee Pati Community Alliance Protest in Jakarta on 27 August
The Provincial Government of Central Java has stated that it will oversee a protest by residents of Pati who are members of the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB) at the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) building in Jakarta on 27 August 2026. Nevertheless, the regional government has urged that the expression of their aspirations be carried out in a proper and courteous manner.
Based on monitoring on Monday (24/8), hundreds of Pati residents had departed for the capital using at least four buses. The demonstration is focused on demanding the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill.
The group, led by AMPB coordinators Supriyono, also known as Botok, and Teguh Istiyanto, departed from Pati Regency on Sunday (23/8). They are reported to have arrived in Jakarta and will join demonstrators from other regions for the main rally on Thursday (27/8).
“The Central Java Provincial Government will oversee everything. We urge that these aspirations be conveyed properly and courteously,” said Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen on Monday (24/8).
Taj Yasin expressed confidence that the aspirations of the AMPB would be welcomed with open arms by the central government because they concern the good of the nation. He is optimistic that the government will continue to open space for dialogue with all elements of society.
Meanwhile, AMPB coordinator Supriyono revealed that the journey to Jakarta did not go smoothly. He disclosed a series of alleged acts of intimidation experienced by the protest participants.
Botok explained that before departure, several bus companies in Pati and Jepara abruptly cancelled bus bookings unilaterally and returned the deposits. The reason given was pressure received by telephone from certain parties not to transport demonstrators to Jakarta.
A physical incident also occurred when the bus was travelling on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road at Km 56, in the Karawang area of West Java. The bus windscreen was reported to have shattered after being struck by a large stone thrown from a pedestrian bridge by an unidentified person wearing a hoodie.
“We are not terrorists, nor are we criminals. We are merely conveying the aspirations and will of the people for the good of this nation, but it is strange that suddenly there is an account freeze,” Botok asserted.
Despite facing various obstacles, the AMPB affirmed that it remains spirited and will continue to fight for its demands in front of the DPR RI building according to the predetermined schedule.
