Central Java Provincial Government Provides 231,724 Seats for State Senior High Schools in 2026 Admissions
The Central Java Provincial Government is providing approximately 231,724 seats for prospective new students for the senior high school (SMA) and vocational high school (SMK) levels in state institutions for the new academic year. “The capacity for state SMA/SMK for this new academic year is 231,724 people,” said the Acting Secretary of the Central Java Education Office, Sunarto, in Semarang on Wednesday.
These 231,724 students will be divided into 6,442 study groups (rombel), consisting of 3,036 groups for SMA and 3,406 groups for SMK. He explained that the capacity for state SMA/SMK this academic year has increased compared to the previous year, which recorded 230,019 students. According to Sunarto, this increase is due to the addition of study groups in schools, rising from 6,395 groups in the 2025/2026 academic year to 6,442 groups for the 2026/2027 academic year. This total includes boarding and semi-boarding SMK, as well as partnership SMA programs that collaborate with private schools.
Regarding the stages of the 2026 New Student Admission Selection (SPMB), he stated that the process has entered the account creation phase, running from 3–12 June 2025, following the announcement and socialisation phase which began on 18 May 2026. After account creation, prospective students are required to undergo document verification at any school, not necessarily the chosen one, from 4–13 June. Alongside the verification stage, prospective students must also activate their accounts, followed by data synchronisation on 14 June 2026.
From 15–18 June 2026, Sunarto noted, prospective students will perform registration or school selection, with the selection results announced on 21 June 2026. “After the announcement on 21 June 2026, those declared successful in the selection will be given the opportunity to re-register between 22–25 June,” said Sunarto, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Central Java State SMA/SMK SPMB Committee. He added that if prospective students fail to re-register by the specified deadline, they will be disqualified. The system will then announce the filling of vacant seats, with the announcement of reserve candidates to be released, followed by a re-registration period on 29–30 June 2026.
