Semarang (ANTARA) – The Central Java Provincial Government has provided at least 1,000 free electricity connections to low-income residents during 2026.

Central Java Energy and Mineral Resources Agency head Agus Sugiharto said in Semarang on Tuesday that the free-connection assistance scheme was one of the government’s efforts to expand energy access for low-income residents.

He said the programme aimed to provide lighting and meet the electricity needs of people requiring assistance. In 2026, 1,000 connections had been installed, matching the number of connections provided the previous year.

“We implemented this programme last year and are continuing it in 2026, with a quota of 1,000 connections per year,” he said.

The programme is being carried out in partnership with state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero), with support from corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The collaboration plays an important role in providing electricity access to residents in need.

The assistance enables recipient households to have lighting and use electricity to support their daily activities. The free-connection programme is also expected to ease the burden on low-income residents who do not yet have their own electricity connection, he said.

Through the scheme, the Central Java Provincial Government is continuing efforts to ensure more equal access to energy while fulfilling its commitment to public service.

“We will always strive to be there for people in need, particularly when it comes to energy,” he said.
