Semarang (ANTARA) - The Central Java Provincial Government has assured that governance and public services in Sukoharjo Regency will continue to run normally even though Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani was caught in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi expressed concern over the sting operation conducted by the KPK against Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani.

Luthfi made the statement while in Jakarta to attend the 2026 National Leprosy Conference on Friday.

He emphasised that efforts to realise a clean and trustworthy government must begin with a leader setting an example.

“I have said repeatedly that we must create a ‘clear and good government’. For that, it starts with the leadership. As they say, the fish rots from the head. That means we must set an example,” he said.

Luthfi said the principles of good governance must be applied by all officials, from the use of authority and budget management to accountability in carrying out duties.

According to him, all government processes must be carried out transparently, accountably, and in accordance with the rules. He hopes all officials at every level apply these principles.

“Whoever the leader is that gets into trouble, government and public services must not be disrupted. We will back up the running of the government in Sukoharjo. We will appoint an acting regent (Plt),” he said.

Previously, the KPK carried out a sting operation in Sukoharjo Regency on Thursday evening (9/7) and secured several individuals for questioning, including Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani.
