Semarang (ANTARA) - The Central Java Provincial Government stated that employment absorption in the region during the first quarter of 2026 reached 92,000 people, in line with the realised investments achieved.

Head of the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) of Central Java, Sakina Rosellasari, in Semarang on Tuesday, mentioned that the highest employment absorption was in Semarang City.

“The total employment absorption in Central Java during the first quarter of 2026 reached 92,000 people. The highest is Semarang City with 15,650 workers,” she said.

Next, in second place was Kendal Regency with 9,009 workers, followed by Brebes Regency with 8,915 people, Jepara Regency with 6,897 people, and Klaten Regency with 6,886 people.

According to her, the high employment absorption in Semarang City is inseparable from its economic structure dominated by the trade and services sectors, namely the horeka sector (hotels, restaurants, cafes), retail, and services, which absorb the most workers compared to the manufacturing industry.

“If Batang has large investments, but its industry tends to be capital-intensive. Meanwhile, Semarang City has many in the trade sector that absorbs more workers,” she said.

For the investment realisation in Central Java during the same period, namely the first quarter of 2026, she mentioned it amounted to Rp23.02 trillion.

This investment was dominated by foreign direct investment (PMA) of Rp12.98 trillion or 56.4 percent, while domestic investment (PMDN) was Rp10.04 trillion or 43.6 percent.
