Central Java Provincial Government Develops 'Jateng Corner' SME Hub at Airport
Semarang (ANTARA) - The Central Java Provincial Government continues its efforts to boost the regional economy, one of which involves developing the ‘Jateng Corner’ SME hub at Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang.
Central Java Vice Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen, speaking in Semarang on Tuesday, encouraged the ‘Jateng Corner’ to include SME players from various regencies and cities to market their products. He stated that expanding SME involvement is crucial so that the benefits of this promotional space can be felt more widely.
“The most important thing is that more SME players enter this Corner. There must be an increase, meaning we are embracing other SMEs,” said Gus Yasin, his familiar nickname, during the inauguration of the UKM Jateng Corner.
Currently, the Jateng Corner at the airport hosts 142 SMEs, with 88 operating in the fashion sector, while the remaining 54 are involved in the food and beverage sector.
According to him, the presence of the Jateng Corner at Ahmad Yani International Airport serves as more than just a showcase for Central Java’s local products. He noted that the gallery, which has been operational for seven years, demonstrates a significant contribution to SME marketing, with turnover steadily increasing.
Data from the Central Java Cooperative and SME Office recorded that the turnover for the Jateng Corner reached IDR 449 million in 2024. This figure rose to IDR 657 million in 2025, while as of July 2026, the recorded turnover has reached IDR 439 million.
The development of the Jateng Corner also receives support from the Central Java Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda). Gus Yasin stated that collaboration with Dekranasda is part of the effort to encourage SME players to grow and expand their markets.
Meanwhile, the Acting Head of the Central Java Cooperative and SME Office, Desi Arijani, stated that the SME gallery at Ahmad Yani Airport was first opened on 5 March 2019 through a partnership between the Central Java Provincial Government and PT Angkasa Pura I. After operating for approximately seven years, the gallery is currently undergoing renovation and rebranding as the ‘UKM Jateng Corner’.
She noted that the existence of the gallery demonstrates its potential as both a promotional tool and a marketing platform for Central Java’s SME products. “This shows that the gallery has good potential as a means of promotion and marketing for our SME products,” she said.
Spanning approximately 120 square metres, the UKM Jateng Corner now features a new look, with more organised display shelves and improved lighting to make SME products more visible to visitors. The upcoming 31st National MTQ in Semarang, Central Java, scheduled for 11-20 September, will also be utilised to expand the promotion of SME products.
