Central Java prepares 12 new industrial and special economic zones
Semarang (ANTARA) - The Central Java Provincial Government is preparing at least 12 new industrial zones and special economic areas to support the growth of the investment climate in the region.
“We are preparing 12 industrial zones and special economic areas. Therefore, we request guidance from the central government to make it quick,” said Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi in Semarang on Monday.
He conveyed this during the Central Java Investment Business Forum (CJIBF) 2026, organised by the Bank Indonesia Representative Office for Central Java Province together with the Provincial Government.
He mentioned that the industrial zones and special economic areas are spread across, among others, Cilacap Regency, Banyumas Regency, Sragen Regency, Demak Regency, and Rembang Regency.
According to him, the preparation of industrial zones and special economic areas is an effort of collaborative government between the provincial government and regencies/cities in Central Java.
“With guidance from the centre, it will be quick. So, the investors are there, the locations are already prepared by us, all permits and regulations from there, we just make it,” he said.
He emphasised that he will continue to boost the investment sector in the region, considering that the investment sector provides a significant contribution to the regional economy.
In the first quarter of 2026, investment realisation in Central Java has reached Rp23.02 trillion, with employment absorption reaching 92,000 people, while in 2025 the investment achievement reached Rp110 trillion.
The high investment, he said, contributes to Central Java’s economic growth in the first quarter of 5.89 percent, above the national average of 5.61 percent.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming or Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu appreciated Central Java’s steps in preparing 12 new industrial zones and special economic areas.
“Industrial zones are one of our strategies in accelerating growth and investment realisation. So I agree, and this is a big challenge for Central Java to increase the number of industrial zones,” he said.
According to him, it is indeed time for industrial zones in Central Java to be increased because the area is vast and the regional potential is also large.
“We are also promoting this interline logistics strategy for infrastructure development towards industry. This is a big challenge for Central Java to add industrial zones. If there are industrial zones, permits will be easier and faster,” he said.
