Central Java Police's Bhabinkamtibmas help trace 1,387 TB suspects in a week

Personnel from the Central Java Police’s Bhabinkamtibmas unit managed to trace 1,387 suspected tuberculosis sufferers following tracking conducted between 3 and 10 June 2026. ‘Within a week, 1,387 suspects were found,’ said Central Java Police Head of Medical and Health Affairs, Senior Commissioner Agung Hadi, in Semarang on Sunday. This, he said, makes a tangible contribution to expanding the reach of early TB detection within the community. According to Agung, the presence of Bhabinkamtibmas officers, who interact daily with residents, is an important asset in supporting public health programmes. In addition to assisting the tracing process, the Bhabinkamtibmas officers also play a role in providing education so that the public understands that Tuberculosis is a curable disease if treated appropriately and thoroughly. ‘The Central Java Police are not only focused on finding cases, but also on building public awareness about the importance of early screening, adherence to treatment, and efforts to prevent transmission,’ said Agung. The Temukan dan Obati Sampai Sembuh Tuberkulosis (Find and Treat Until Cured) programme, he said, is a Central Java Police innovation that empowers Bhabinkamtibmas officers as partners of health workers in supporting TB control efforts. In addition to tracking close contacts, Agung continued, the Bhabinkamtibmas officers also play a role in providing education, patient assistance, and helping with reporting that is integrated with local health facilities. The Central Java Police have 4,666 personnel assigned as Bhabinkamtibmas.
