Central Java Police Uncover Vehicle Smuggling Route to Timor Leste via Singapore
The Smuggling Task Force of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Dit Reskrimsus) of the Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jateng) has uncovered a smuggling route for thousands of vehicles from Klaten to Timor Leste. The vehicle-carrying ship first transited in Singapore. “The ship departed from Tanjung Priok, then transited in Singapore before proceeding to Dili, Timor Leste,” said the Director of Reskrimsus of Polda Jateng, Senior Commissioner Djoko Julianto, when asked for confirmation, as reported by detikJateng on Thursday (23/4/2026). Djoko explained that the perpetrators had sent 52 containers containing thousands of smuggled vehicles since January 2025, until it was thwarted by authorities in April 2026. “In total, 1,727 vehicles were sent to Timor Leste, consisting of 1,674 motorcycles, 34 cars, and 19 six-wheeled trucks,” Djoko clarified. In their operation, the perpetrators used fake BPKB to pass through port shipments. The container export documents were still recorded as motor vehicles. “The container documents were still declared as motor vehicles, but accompanied by fake BPKB by the perpetrators,” said Djoko. Djoko revealed that there are other perpetrators involved in making the fake BPKB. His side is still conducting investigations regarding this finding. “There are other perpetrators (who made the fake BPKB), the investigation is still ongoing,” Djoko stated.
