The Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Central Java Police (Ditreskrimsus Polda Jateng) has uncovered a fraudulent practice of injecting subsidised LPG gas in Karanganyar, Central Java. Two suspects with initials N and NA have been arrested by the police.

The Head of Criminal Investigation at Central Java Police, Senior Commissioner Djoko Julianto, explained that the case’s revelation began with police suspicions regarding activities at a warehouse in Buran Village, Tasikmadu, Karanganyar, on 2 April 2026.

Upon investigation, it turned out that the warehouse was used by N and NA for the practice of injecting 3-kilogramme (kg) gas into 12kg and 50kg non-subsidised cylinders.

“The suspects would source 3kg gas cylinders from agents, then store them in a warehouse owned by the perpetrators. It was there that they operated the injection of subsidised gas, which should be enjoyed by the public, but instead, these individuals injected it into 12kg and 50kg cylinders,” said Senior Commissioner Djoko to reporters on Friday (4/4/2026).

Djoko stated that from this fraudulent practice, the two suspects reaped profits of up to Rp 35 million per day. If calculated monthly, N and NA are said to have earned over Rp 1 billion in total.

“The profits obtained were approximately Rp 35 million per day, and they had been doing this for about six months. Monthly profits exceeded Rp 1 billion from the cylinder injection business,” he said.

From the case’s uncovering, police seized 820 gas cylinders of various sizes, scales, and dozens of modified regulator hoses. Now, the suspects face a maximum prison sentence of six years and a fine of Rp 500 million.
