Central Java Police Uncover Smuggling of Vehicles to Timor Leste from Criminal Proceeds
The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Dit Reskrimsus) of Central Java Police (Polda Jateng) has uncovered the smuggling of thousands of vehicles from Klaten to Timor Leste. The smuggled vehicles were obtained by the perpetrators from areas in Central Java and West Java. “Preliminary investigations show that the vehicles, consisting of motorcycles, cars, and trucks, were acquired by the perpetrators from Central Java and West Java regions,” said Director of Dit Reskrimsus Polda Jateng, Senior Commissioner Djoko Julianto, when asked for confirmation, as reported by detikJateng on Thursday (23/4/2026). Djoko explained that the vehicles were obtained by the suspects from the proceeds of motorcycle thefts to defaulted credit vehicles. “The origins of some vehicles obtained by the perpetrators come from defaulted leasing credits, while others are still being identified from motorcycle theft data,” Djoko revealed. Because they are proceeds of crime, Djoko explained that the vehicles do not have complete official documents. The smuggled vehicles from criminal proceeds were also modified to avoid detection by their owners. “The vehicles have no official documents, only STNK. Some have parts removed, altered, with colours changed, making the vehicles difficult to recognise by the public, especially the vehicle owners,” Djoko clarified. Djoko stated that his side is still developing the case. He did not rule out the possibility of other perpetrators.
