Semarang (ANTARA) — Central Java Police are preparing a proactive outreach initiative to make it easier for the public to report troubling offences, particularly street crime.

“Officers will go to the scene to carry out initial checks and assist with the reporting process in accordance with the law,” Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Roy Hardi Siahaan said during a working visit by House of Representatives Commission III in Semarang on Tuesday.

He said he hoped the initiative would make police services more accessible and encourage residents to report crimes in their communities.

According to him, the principle of “Police Together with the Community” is being put into practice through three main priorities: firm action against crimes that disturb the public, prompt responses to requests for assistance, and humane services for vulnerable groups.

He said police must take a firm stance against crimes that trouble the public, including aggravated theft, violent theft, motor vehicle theft, murder and street brawls.

“We must respond quickly to requests for help from the public through the 110 hotline and the Integrated Police Service Centre (SPKT),” he said.

The police chief said he was committed to ensuring that “Police Together with the Community” meant providing a service that was not solely focused on carrying out official duties, but also took account of people’s feelings, needs and expectations.

He stressed that Central Java Police would continue to improve service quality and address shortcomings in the performance of their duties.

Public trust, he added, must be maintained through a police presence that is responsive and professional, and able to provide assistance according to residents’ needs.

He said improvements to police services would continue so that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) could become more professional, humane and responsive in maintaining security and delivering a sense of justice to the people of Central Java.
