Central Java Police Renovate Fire Victim's Home for Bhayangkara Day
An emotional atmosphere enveloped Margono and his wife Reni as they stepped back into their home in the Jatingaleh area of Semarang City, Central Java. After losing their residence to a fire, the Margono family can now return to their dwelling thanks to a house renovation programme facilitated by the Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jateng) in conjunction with the 80th Bhayangkara Day.
Based on information received on Friday (12/6/2026), the inauguration of the renovated house was led by the Director of Special Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimsus) of Polda Jateng, Senior Commissioner Djoko Julianto. He symbolically handed over the house keys to Margono and his family.
The event was also attended by the Candisari Sub-district Head, the Candisari Police Chief, the Candisari Military Command representative, religious leaders, local residents, and dozens of members of the online motorcycle taxi community who had provided support and care for the victim’s family from the outset.
The house belonging to Margono, who works daily as an online motorcycle taxi driver, and his wife, who sells iced drinks, was previously completely destroyed by a fire that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 7 May 2026, around 2:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. As a result of the incident, which was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, the family had to leave their residence and temporarily stay at a relative’s house.
Seeing this condition, the online motorcycle taxi community took the initiative to rally support, which was then facilitated by the Polda Jateng Special Criminal Investigation Directorate together with the local government, surrounding residents, and various other parties until the house renovation programme was realised. In less than two weeks, the house was successfully renovated into a safer, more comfortable, and livable dwelling.
Senior Commissioner Djoko Julianto expressed gratitude for the completion of the renovation process, which was the fruit of the mutual cooperation spirit of various elements of society.
“Alhamdulillah, today we have carried out a house renovation for the residence of our brother, Mas Margono, who was a fire victim some time ago. At the initiative of our friends from the online motorcycle taxi community, we from Polda Jateng facilitated the renovation together with the local government, surrounding residents, and other parties who were moved to help. Hopefully, this house brings blessings and benefits to the recipient family,” said Djoko.
Now, the house, which covers an area of approximately 80 square metres, has a new look. In addition to having three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a family room, all floors have been tiled, providing better comfort for its occupants.
Accompanied by his wife, Margono admitted he was very grateful for the assistance received. According to him, the house, which was previously completely destroyed by the fire, is now in even better condition than before.
“Alhamdulillah, we feel happy and touched. Since the fire disaster, we were forced to live at a relative’s house. Now our house has been renovated, from the front appearance, rooms, floors, roof, ceiling, to the frames, everything is better. We express our gratitude to the Central Java Police, especially the Director of Special Criminal Investigation, who facilitated this house renovation programme,” said Margono.
In a similar vein, Candisari Sub-district Head Cipto Nugroho conveyed his appreciation to Polda Jateng for its care towards residents experiencing misfortune.
“On behalf of the Candisari Sub-district Government and the Semarang City Government, we thank Polda Jateng for facilitating the house renovation for our resident. Thanks to the synergy between the police, local government, and the community, this house can now be reoccupied by its owner, coinciding with the series of commemorations for the 80th Bhayangkara Day,” he said.
Responding to the activity, Polda Jateng Head of Public Relations Senior Commissioner Artanto stated that social services such as house renovations are a tangible manifestation of the spirit of the 80th Bhayangkara Day, which prioritises devotion and care for the community.
He hopes that the various social activities held during the 80th Bhayangkara Day series will further strengthen the relationship between the Indonesian National Police and the community, as well as reinforce public trust through humanitarian actions that have a positive impact on citizens’ lives.
“The 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration brings benefits that can be directly felt by the community. This house renovation programme reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation, empathy, and collaboration between the Police, local government, communities, and residents in helping fellow citizens experiencing misfortune,” he explained.
He also urged the public to increase their awareness of potential fires, especially by ensuring the safety of electrical installations in their respective homes to prevent fire disasters.
