Central Java Police Remind Students to Express Aspirations Peacefully and Responsibly

Central Java Police have reminded participants of the Semarang Raya BEM Alliance action expressing their views in Semarang on Wednesday (26/8) to exercise freedom of expression peacefully, orderly, and responsibly.

Central Java Police Head of Public Relations Kombes Yuliyanto said students have the right to convey criticism, ideas, and demands to the government. However, that right must be accompanied by the obligation to respect the rights of other members of the public, obey the law, and maintain security and order.

“We respect the right of students to express their opinions and voice their aspirations. However, that right is also accompanied by the obligation to respect the rights of other members of the public, obey the law, and maintain order,” said Yuliyanto.

He urged participants to maintain order from departure, while at the protest site, until leaving the location. Aspirations are expected to be conveyed through speeches and peaceful means without violence or damage to public facilities.

“Convey what your concerns and demands are in a peaceful manner. Do not let good aspirations be disrupted by actions that could harm others or violate the law,” he said.

According to him, the act of expressing opinions should become a space for constructive dialogue and part of a healthy democracy.
