Central Java Police Investigate Deepfake Pornography Case Involving Seven Female Students

The Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jateng) are investigating a case involving the creation of deepfake pornographic photos and videos, with seven female university students in Semarang and Surakarta believed to be victims. One of the victims, identified as E, has already been examined as a witness. Head of Public Relations for the Central Java Police, Commissioner Artanto, confirmed that investigators from the Directorate of Cyber Crime have questioned E. He stated that investigators have also provided updates on the initial investigation’s progress. However, Artanto noted that investigators have yet to identify a suspect. He explained that the perpetrator sent the material via direct message using an anonymous name, making it necessary to trace the sender. When asked to confirm whether seven victims had their faces edited into deepfake pornographic content, Artanto said he could not yet verify the number. He mentioned that investigators are currently gathering statements from witnesses. According to Artanto, information from the victim suggests that others received similar treatment, but the exact number of victims remains unknown. He added that only two victims are currently being traced by investigators. Seven students from universities in Semarang and Surakarta, Central Java, are alleged to be victims of the deepfake pornography. The legal representative for one of the victims, identified by the initial E, Zainal Petir, revealed that the case was reported on 28 January 2026. He explained that based on the evidence collected, his client’s face was superimposed onto nude photos and videos. The content was distributed by three Instagram accounts and one Telegram account. Zainal described the material, which included two photos depicting sexual intercourse and dozens of other images showing the victim fully naked, wearing only a bra, or lying down. He stated that the victims include his client and several of her high school friends. He noted that upon profiling, there appeared to be around seven victims, all female and all university students. Zainal added that the six other victims, who are his client’s high school friends, have not yet filed reports, but he is prepared to assist them if they decide to pursue legal action.
