Central Java Police Instruct Personnel to Defy Prosecutor Summons Amid MBG Corruption Probe
SEMARANG – Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jateng) has instructed its personnel not to respond to summons from district prosecutors’ offices (kejari) for questioning over the management of Nutrition Service Fulfilment Units (SPPG) within the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Polda Jateng stated that if questioning must be carried out, it should be conducted at each region’s local police headquarters.
The instruction for Polda Jateng personnel not to answer prosecutors’ summons circulated via a chain message on WhatsApp. It was issued by the Head of the Discipline Supervision Sub-Division (Kasubbidpaminal) of Polda Jateng’s Professional Standards Division (Bidpropam) and addressed to the heads of the Propam sections (kasipropam) and National Police personnel. The circular was copied to the Head of Polda Jateng’s Professional Standards Division and its senior leadership.
“It is conveyed to all Kasipropam and National Police personnel of Polda Jateng that, given the many SPPG managers and operators linked to the National Police who have been summoned by district prosecutors, both verbally and in writing, the leadership’s instructions are as follows: 1. No National Police personnel or members shall attend any summons from a district prosecutor in their jurisdiction without lawful accompaniment procedures,” read the instruction letter obtained by Republika on Thursday (9 July 2026).
The order comes amid an investigation by the Attorney General’s Office’s Special Crimes Deputy (Jampidsus) into alleged corruption in the MBG programme at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Investigators have named seven suspects in the case, including two retired National Police officers: Inspector General (Ret.) Sony Sonjaya, former Deputy Head of BGN, and Brigadier General Lalu Muhammad Iwan, who previously served as Head of BGN’s Legal and Public Relations Bureau.
Meanwhile, overnight, police officers carried out raids related to several cases in Jakarta and its surroundings. The raids prompted the reinforcement of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops guarding the residence of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. There has been no statement from the police regarding any connection between the raids and Febrie.
The instruction letter issued by the Kasubbidpaminal of Polda Jateng’s Professional Standards Division contains ten points. Another point stipulates that if questioning by district prosecutors must take place, it must be conducted at local police headquarters. “If unavoidable, questioning must be carried out at the police headquarters, accompanied by the Professional Standards Division work unit, the Internal Supervision Inspectorate (Itwasda), and the Legal Division,” it read.
In a subsequent point, the kasipropam were ordered to re-register SPPG units privately managed by National Police members and their families, both those serving in Polda Jateng and in other regional police commands. “If an SPPG privately managed by National Police members or their families is summoned by the district prosecutor, it must also be reported to the Head of the Professional Standards Division, including the substance of the questions posed by the prosecutors’ investigators,” read the fourth point.
In addition, the Kasubbidpaminal of Polda Jateng’s Professional Standards Division ordered that all National Police public service rooms in each work unit must be guarded by provost officers. “Ensure that no National Police public service venue is subjected to sting operations by unauthorised parties,” the instruction stated.
The Head of Public Relations at Polda Jateng, Police Grand Commissioner Artanto, confirmed the instruction letter issued by the Kasubbidpaminal of Polda Jateng’s Professional Standards Division with all its points, as circulated on WhatsApp. According to Artanto, the instruction was circulated two days earlier.
