In support of smooth traffic flow and to ensure security and public order during the Ketupat Candi 2026 operation, the Traffic Unit of Semarang Metropolitan Police conducted checkpoint operations against heavy vehicles with three or more axles on Friday, 13 March.

The first activity was carried out at 14:30 WIB in front of Mangkang Terminal in Semarang. During this operation, officers stopped three-axle vehicles coming from Kendal and directed them to turn back towards Kendal. This step was taken to anticipate traffic congestion and maintain vehicle mobility on main routes leading to Semarang.

Additionally, checkpoint operations were also conducted in the Mranggen border area by the Pedurungan Police Station team, which is part of the Ketupat Candi 2026 task force. This activity focused on monitoring and controlling three-axle or larger vehicles crossing the border route to reduce potential traffic congestion.

Kasatlantas (Head of Traffic) Semarang Metropolitan Police Yunaldi explained that the checkpoint operations were a follow-up to a Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) restricting the operational activities of goods transport vehicles during the Lebaran homecoming and return periods.

“Based on the Tri-Ministry Decree, goods transport vehicles with three or more axles are prohibited from passing on toll roads or arterial routes from 13 to 29 March 2026. However, there are several exceptions for vehicles carrying fuel or petroleum products, foodstuffs, fertiliser, animal feed, and natural disaster relief equipment,” Yunaldi explained.

Through this activity, Semarang Metropolitan Police aimed to ensure traffic flow remains smooth and to support the creation of a conducive security and public order situation during the Ketupat Candi 2026 operation.

Meanwhile, Artanto, Head of Public Relations of Central Java Police, stated that the three-axle vehicle checkpoint measure was part of traffic engineering strategy to maintain smooth traffic flow, particularly ahead of increased public mobility.

“The restriction on three-axle or larger vehicles is implemented to reduce the potential for traffic congestion on main routes. We urge heavy vehicle drivers to comply with the regulations set by officers in the field for the sake of smooth and safe journey for all,” said Artanto.

Central Java Police through the Ketupat Candi 2026 operation continue to optimise various security measures, traffic management, and public services to ensure that people’s travel activities run safely, smoothly, and comfortably during the Lebaran homecoming period.
