Semarang (ANTARA) - The Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) of Central Java Provincial Police processed the crime scene of an explosion at a house in Tambakrejo Village, Semarang City, on Friday, suspected to have been caused by firecracker-making materials. Deputy Head of Physics and Computer Forensics Division of the Labfor, AKBP Totok Tri Kusuma, stated that the examination was carried out in one room of a house owned by R, believed to be the location of the explosion. In that room, he said, an explosion dome with a diameter of between 25 and 30 cm was found. During the crime scene processing, he continued, officers did not find any firecracker materials still intact. “We only found remnants of the explosion materials. The type will be further investigated,” he said. Additionally, according to him, officers also did not find any finished firecrackers. Several pieces of evidence in the form of fireworks-type firecrackers found at the location, he said, were not part of the exploded materials. “The exploded materials fall into the category of ‘low explosive’,” he said. He explained that with an explosion dome of that size, the estimated weight of the detonated firecracker raw materials is between 1 and 2 kg. Initial suspicion, he said, is that the firecracker powder exploded while being assembled. “The chemicals, once combined, become unstable. The explosion could be triggered by friction or heat,” he said. The explosion incident at a house in Tambakrejo Village, Semarang City, suspected to be due to firecracker raw materials, occurred on Friday early morning. One child with initials GSP (9) died in the tragic incident.
