Central Java Police Debunk 'Pocong Robber' Terror Hoax

Central Java Police have responded to social media hoaxes about a “pocong robber” terror circulating in several regencies and cities in the province. Police spokesperson Brigadier General Artanto stated that cyber patrols have been conducted to address public concern over the social media content. He added that cyber patrols revealed repeated videos and photos being shared across social media platforms with altered narratives or location details. The alarming posts were reported in Grobogan, Kendal, Magelang, and Cilacap regencies. “The affected areas remain safe, orderly, and conducive, with no reported casualties or material losses,” he said. Despite the false information circulating online, he said all personnel have been ordered to remain vigilant to ensure public safety. He added that night patrols have been stepped up, particularly during high-risk hours in residential areas, quiet roads, and poorly lit locations. He urged the public to use the 110 hotline to report suspicious activities that threaten public order and security. “Do not take the law into your own hands. Prioritise safety and immediately report to the 110 hotline,” he said. He added that police are continuing to investigate social media accounts suspected of spreading the “pocong robber” terror hoax. “Those found to have acted intentionally will face strict action,” he said.
