Central Java Police (Polda Jateng) have arrested a suspect in a case involving the alleged embezzlement of gold. The suspect, identified by the initials DWD (43), was apprehended in connection with the disappearance of gold worth IDR 3.7 billion.

Director of General Criminal Investigation for Central Java Police, Commissioner Anwar Nasir, stated that the fraud began when the suspect, a long-time customer, ordered gold from a shop in Semarang.

“From February to March 2024, the suspect placed 16 invoices for approximately 4 kilograms of gold with a total value of IDR 3.7 billion,” Anwar said.

Anwar explained that the suspect failed to pay for the gold and subsequently fled. The incident was later reported to the police.

“In reality, from August to November 2024, the complainant continuously demanded payment but only received false promises. The suspect then disappeared and fled from his home and shop in Madiun,” Anwar clarified.

Anwar noted that the police did not immediately issue a wanted persons list (DPO) because the report was only filed in 2025. He added that officers faced difficulties locating the suspect, who frequently moved locations and used a false identity.
